EUGENE — Dane Bachman closed out his track career on the highest of notes — with a state championship Saturday.

Bachman won the triple jump at the Class 4A state meet in Eugene, finishing with a jump of 44 feet, 91/4-inches.

The mark also bettered his BHS school record by almost a foot. Bachman had set the record at 43 feet, 10 inches earlier this month at the Baker Invitational.

“It feels really good,” Bachman said of winning the state title.

Bachman beat out Curtis Deetz of Stayton, who finished with a jump of 44-31/2.

“This is my last high school meet, and I’m done with sports now,” Bachman said. “The emotions are running high.”

Bachman also finished sixth in the long jump (20-10) and tied for seventh in the high jump (6-0).

Jorden Osborn finished fourth in the discus with a throw of 154 feet, 6 inches.

Tyson Walton placed ninth in the shot put with a throw of 46 feet, 3/4 inch.

Liz Wulk placed ninth in the triple jump (32-31/4) and finished 14th in the long jump (14 feet).

Monica Voboril was ninth in the javelin with a throw of 116-6.

Mitko Smith finished 14th in the 400 with a time of 54.11 in the preliminaries.

Nathan Baeth finished 14th in the 800 with a time of 2:07.16 in the prelims.

Alli Ferdig placed 12th in the shot with a toss of 33 feet, 6.75 inches.

The Baker boys tied for 12th in the team standings with Tillamook with 19 points. Siuslaw won the team title with 60 points.

The Baker girls did not score any team points. Gladstone won the girls crown with 65 points.
