Baker’s volleyball squad will be building from the ground up this season, with only two returning players.

Juniors Michelle Freese and Kate Averett are the lone returning players from last year’s second-place Greater Oregon League team.

Freese saw significant playing time on the varsity a year ago. Averett split her time between JV and varsity.

“We’re very young with a lot of juniors and sophomores,” said Baker coach Michele McCauley.

“We have to set an overall goal, but also have to set day-to-day goals. We have to try to be successful each day.”

McCauley said she is pleased with what she has seen so far.

“We’re devleoping. I’m pleased with the way the girls have stepped up. The kids seem to enjoy each other’s successes. But, we have a lot of work to do,” she said.

The rest of the varsity lineup consists of juniors Kayla Davis, Michelle Lehman, Whitney Lemmon and LaKalyn Thomas, and sophomores Madi Elms, Makenna Bachman, Dani McCauley and Summer Phillips.

“One of our strengths is that we have to ability to go a long way to develop as a team,” McCauley said.

“The girls are genuinely excited for each other.”
