Coral Rose

Haines, 1929-2013

Coral Jane Rose, 84, of Haines, died peacefully at her home on the morning of Oct. 8, 2013.

At her request, there will be no service.

Coral was born on Oct. 1, 1929, at Eugene. She was the only daughter of William Claire Kneeland and Coral Agnes Graham Kneeland.

She graduated from University (Uni) High School at Eugene, and attended the University of Oregon where she met her husband, Gene C. Rose.

They were married on Dec. 27, 1950, at Eugene. This year marks their 63rd wedding anniversary.

Coral worked to support Gene’s law school education. Upon his graduation in 1953, the couple moved to Baker City where Gene practiced law.

In 1956, the couple moved to Tacoma, Wash., as a result of Gene’s assignment to the U.S. Air Force. They returned to Baker City in 1957.

In 1968, the family moved to Ontario, where Gene was a partner with the law firm Yturri, Rose.

Coral worked nonstop to raise their five children. She also owned and operated an antique shop: Classique Antiques — fulfilling her life-long passion for collecting historic and primitive items.

Although many friends were made in Ontario, Coral and Gene were eager to return to Baker County in the mid-1990s to retire.

Coral lovingly dedicated her life to her husband, her children, her grandchildren and her numerous friends. All who entered the Rose home were made to feel comfortable as a result of Coral’s warmth and grace, family members said.

She was noted for her superb cooking and her ability to entertain at a moment’s notice. She was deeply admired for her straightforward, common-sense attitude, often highlighted by a rye sense of humor. Coral never waivered from her independent thinking, but welcomed and enjoyed all points of view.

She had an abiding love for all animals, as witnessed by the numerous pets that lived and were loved in her home throughout the years. She was an active volunteer and thoroughly enjoyed her time working on behalf of the community.

Coral was deeply connected to her home in Haines, and found special peace and solace working in her garden, surrounded by her beloved pets.

Survivors include her spouse, Gene; son, Bill Rose, and his wife, Karen; daughter, Connie Ross, and her husband, John; son, Bob Rose, and his wife, JoAnn; daughter, Mary Jane Guyer, and her husband, Randy; daughter, Kathryn Rose; grandchildren, Kelley, Christie, Kevin and J.J.; and her great-grandchildren, Elsie Jane and Madeline Rose.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Eastern Oregon Museum at Haines and Heart ‘n’ Home Hospice, through Tami’s Pine Valley Funeral Home, P.O. Box 543, Halfway, OR 97834.
