Baker City, 1941-2013

Ralph Gerold “Gary” White, 72, of Baker City, died Dec. 8, 2013, at his home.

There will be a celebration of his life at 11 a.m. Saturday at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2625 Hughes Lane. Friends are invited to join the family for a time of fellowship after the service. Private interment will be later at Mount Hope Cemetery.

Gary was born on May 25, 1941, at Ontario to Jasper “Jack” and Wilma “Babe” White. He attended schools at Gold Beach, Umatilla and Baker City, before graduating from Waitsburg High School in Washington in 1961. 

During his final years of high school and immediately after he graduated, he served eight years in the Oregon Army National Guard. He enlisted in June of 1956 and receiving an honorable discharge in 1964.

He was a skilled carpenter, body-fender repairman and electrician. For many years he owned and operated Baker Bowl in Baker City. 

Gary loved hunting, fishing, his family and church. He enjoyed playing football at Baker High School and later worked for many years officiating high school and college football games.

Gary married Shirley Munden on Aug. 10, 1968. During his marriage to Shirley he adopted and raised her two sons, Randy and Robert “Bobbie.” Gary and Shirley divorced in 1983. 

He later met and married Delores Grove in 1984. He adopted and raised his third son, Danny. Gary and Delores later divorced. 

Gary was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Baker City 1st Ward. 

He enjoyed spending time working, playing, hunting and fishing with Uncle Tom. He spent a lot of time with his grandson, Rob. It was important to Gary to be at home with family and not to be alone when he passed.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Jack and Babe; and a younger brother, Richard. 

Survivors include his sons, Randy White, and his wife, Denise, of Alaska, Bob and his fiancee, Michele, of Baker City and Danny White of Portland; brothers and their wives, Bruce and Sharon White of Pasco, Wash., Monty and Roberta White of Baker City, Randy and Carole White of Walla Walla Wash., Kenneth and Debbie White of Baker City, Michael and Claudette White of Waitsburg, Wash., and Thomas and CeCe White of Baker City; a sister, Sherrie White of Baker City; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and cousins.
