Baker rebounded from a lop-sided loss to Pendleton to hand Burns a 59-48 defeat Saturday in a nonleague boys basketball game at Burns.

“I thought the guys responded well after the drubbing by Pendleton,” said Baker coach Joel Richardson.

“The guys played really well. They attacked the basket and shot the thre-ball well.”

Trailing by a slim margin late in the second period the Bulldogs finished the quarter on a 7-0 run to to take a 28-25 halftime edge.

Richardson said Mason Cline hit a three-point basket and Logan Sand a three-pointer plus a free throw in the run.

“That gave us momentum going in to halftime,” Richardson said. “And, set the stage for the second half.”

Baker outscored the Hilandrs 18-9 in the third quarter to put the game away.

“I really thought we played great defensively,” Richardson said.

“We really contested the three-point line. I thought Logan Scott, Aiden Hayes and Sand all did a great job on defense against their best two kids.

“Our press really caused some fits for Burns,” Richardson said. “We got quite a few points off their turnovers.”

Baker was 18-of-27 from the free throw line in the game, 13-of-19 in the second half, and 7-of-9 in the fourth quarter.

Cline led the Bulldogs with 19 points. Sand added 14 and Kyle Srack 10.

Baker opens Greater Oregon League play Tuesday at Ontario. The Bulldogs then host La Grande Friday.
