Redmond picked up its first win of the season Saturday, defeating Baker 39-32 in a nonleague girls basketball game at Prairie City.

Redmond jumped out to an 8-0 lead to start the game and Baker could never quite catch up.

Baker managed to cut the deficit to four points twice in the second and third periods before getting to within one point, 29-28 with 4:36 left in the game.

Redmond answered Baker’s fourth-quarter run with a 7-0 run of its own to put the game away.

Michelle Freese led Baker with 15 points, five rebounds and five steals.

The Bulldogs were hampered by 24 turnovers. Baker did force Redmond into 28 miscues.

Baker returns to Greater Oregon League play Tuesday when the Bulldogs host Ontario.
