A valiant Baker effort came up short Tuesday in a Greater Oregon League girls basketball game against Ontario at BHS.

The Bulldogs trailed by double digits throughout the first half only to rally to pull into a 37-37 tie with 7:37 left in the game. Baker then went cold again, dropping a 53-39 decision.

“It was a good comeback,” said Baker coach Jenny Mowe-Joseph.

“We put together a good second half. Then I lost my point guard."

Point guard Brie Sand earned a bloody nose when she was hit by a pair of Ontario players with about 6:30 left in the game.

Baker trailed 41-37 at that point but was outscored 12-2 the rest of the way.

The Bulldogs trailed 12-3 after one quarter. Baker’s only points came on a three-point basket from Allie Brown.

Sand then scored six points, and Michelle Freese three, to help the Bulldogs pull within 26-14 at halftime.

Freese and Brown each tallied seven points in the third quarter to pull Baker within 35-34 entering the final eight minutes.

Sand then hit a three-pointer with 7:37 left to tie the game at 37-37.

But a basket by Emily Tatlock with about three minutes left was the only other points scored by the Bulldogs the rest of the game.

Baker drops to 1-3 in the GOL. The Bulldogs travel to La Grande Friday.
