Lady Bucks edge Dufur

St. Paul rallied from a seven-point second-half deficit to edge Dufur 42-33 in the quarterfinals at the Class 1A state girls basketball tournament Wednesday at Baker High School.

St. Paul meets top-ranked Condon/Wheeler in today’s semifinals at 1:30 p.m.

St. Paul (19-11) trailed 24-17 early in the third quarter before mounting its comeback.

Behind four points each from Sara Pierson and Cassidy Merten the Lady Buckaroos took a 28-27 lead with 1:14 left in the third period.

Two Dufur free throws left St. Paul trailing 29-28 entering the final quarter.

Remy Brentano then scored the first five points of the fourth period to lift St. Paul on top for good 33-29.

Dufur managed to pull back within two points, 33-31, with 5:30 left in the game.

But St. Paul answered when Pierson sandwiched a pair of baskets around a free throw from Jessica Wilmes to take a 38-31 cushion.

Piersonled St. Paul with 15 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the field.

Brentano added 12 points, and Wilmes 10. Merten added 12 rebuonds.

Alexa Macias led Dufur (21-8) with 12 points.
