Triangle Lake tops Panthers

Triangle Lake constructed a double-digit lead in the fourth quarter then held off a late Prairie City surge for a 44-40 quarterfinal win Wednesday at the Class 1A state girls basketball tournament at Baker High School.

Triangle Lake will play second-ranked Damascus Christian in the semifinals today at 6:30 p.m.

Triangle Lake (26-3) led just 17-14 at halftime before increasing its lead to 34-22 after three quarters.

The Lakers then led by 15 with 5:36 left in the game only to have Prairie City (17-8) come back to within five points.

Triangle Lake’s Kiana Brown, the all-time leading girls basketball scorer, was held to just six points in the first half.

Brown then finished with 29 points and 15 rebounds.

The game turned into a dual between Brown and Prairie City’s Amy Black.

Black finished with 21 points and 10 rebounds.
