Baker County Sheriff’s Office
On Anthony Lakes Highway at Pocahontas Road, 1:18 p.m. Tuesday. Lt. Jef Van Arsdall said Harold L. Craig, 82, of Haines was the driver of a hay truck and double trailers that dumped about 28 tons of half-ton hay bales when the load shifted as Craig was rounding a curve. Craig was taken by Baker City ambulance to St. Alphonsus Medical Center with minor injuries, Van Arsdall said. He was hauling hay for Kerns Rainbow Ranch. Most of the hay, valued at about $120 per ton, was recovered by the Kernses with help from neighbors. A diesel spill at the site also was cleaned up, Van Arsdall said. Haines and Baker Rural fire department volunteers also responded to the scene.
