In its fourth bargaining session with teachers, Baker School District negotiators have loosened the purse strings to offer salary increases totaling 3 percent over the next two years of the contract, which expires June 30, 2019.

The agreement includes openers on salary, fringe benefits, calendar and workday issues and professional development.

In past meetings, representatives of the Baker Education Association, the union that represents teachers, has proposed a 3-percent increase in each of the next two years.

At the most recent bargaining session on April 26, the District backed off from its stand that it was too early to consider any raises because of concerns about state funding for schools.
