Baker County commissioners gave the go-ahead Wednesday for the county’s emergency services manager to prepare the paperwork necessary to declare a drought emergency.

“We need to declare the county is in an emergency based on the fact that we’re dry this year and we had a drought last year,” Commissioner Tim Kerns said. “We haven’t even made up for that.”

Last year the commissioners declared a drought emergency on March 18, and Oregon Gov. Kate Brown signed a drought declaration for the county on April 20.
