Charges against Bobbie J. McBroom, Haines, of grossly injuring property of another (horse) were dismissed Tuesday in Baker Justice Court. The case was dismissed following a motion by Baker Attorney Bill Jackson stating the horse sustained no ‘gross’ injury.

The Baker City Council will decide Tuesday whether to accept a $200,000 state grant that would be used to build a park in the Court Street right-of-way between Resort and Main streets.

Ron Stoaks got a pleasant surprise as he headed into Baker Valley at 4 o’clock this morning.

“There were no drifts in the valley — there were more in town,” said Stoaks, the Baker School District’s transportation and maintenance director. “I went up Pocahontas Road and before I got to the first corner, the drifts were gone — all we had was snow.”

That meant that once again, to the disappointment of the district’s students, classes were scheduled as usual and buses, for the most part, ran on time.

Baker High School brought home six first-place wins from the annual regional skills competition Thursday at Eastern Oregon University at La Grande.
