Ash, Younger lead Baker win


S. John Collins/ Baker City Herald Baker’s Sydney Younger, No. 12, scored two goals against Nyssa Tuesday.

Josie Ash and Sydney Younger each scored two goals to lead Baker to a 4-2 nonleague girls soccer win over Nyssa Tuesday at the Baker Sports Complex.

Ash gave Baker a 1-0 lead in the first half when she stole the ball near the top of the Nyssa penalty box, beat a defender and scored to the left of the keeper.

Younger made the score 2-0 Baker later in the half when she scored on a rebound of a long Ash shot.

Nyssa cut Baker’s lead to 2-1 at halftime, then tied the game at 2-2 early in the second

Ash quickly broke the deadlock when she stole another pass and drove the shot home.

Younger completed the scoring when she scored on another rebound later in the half.

“We just continue to improve,” said Baker coach Kristen Rushton.

Baker returns to Greater Oregon League action Saturday at Ontario.
