Baker made Ontario its latest victim Friday, defeating the Tigers 76-37 in a Greater Oregon League girls basketball game at BHS.

The win improved Baker’s GOL record to 2-0 and overall mark to 14-1. It was Baker’s ninth straight win. The Bulldogs have scored fewer than 55 points in only one of those games.

“We just wanted to come out and play our game,” said Baker coach Mat Sand.

“We just stuck to our game plan.”

Seven Bulldogs scored in the first quarter on the way to building a 27-8 cushion.

Sydney Younger led the way with six points. Jayme Ramos added five, Emily Carter four, Rose Gwillim four and Calli Ward four.

Baker continued to expand its lead to 43-15 at halftime.

The teams got an unexpected lengthy halftime break when Baker cheerleader Salena Cullum was injured during a performance and had to be taken by ambulance to the hospital.

Baker athletic director Tim Smith said after the game that Cullum suffered a concussion and was resting at home.

Baker’s defense resulted in several steals of Ontario passes.

“We had some great transition buckets,” Sand said.

“We try to push the ball up the floor. It makes us a better team when we share the ball.”

Younger led Baker with 23 points. Kaeli Flanagan added 15, and Ramos 13.

Baker hosts Pendleton Tuesday before traveling to La Grande Friday.
