Team Rudi hosts wood bat baseball tourney at Complex

Five American Legion baseball teams will converge on the Baker Sports Complex today through Sunday at the annual Team Rudi Wood Bat Tournament.

Team Rudi (15-3 overall) will play Burns at 2:30 p.m. today, and Orofino at 7:30 p.m. today in the first day of action.

Team Rudi wins Boise tourney

The temperature in the Boise area hovered near the century mark all weekend. But it had to go some to equal the heat generated by the Baker Team Rudi Legion bats.

Team Rudi (15-3 overall) scored 82 runs in six games at the Boise Firecracker Invitational baseball tournament, averaging almost 14 runs a contest.

Baker Team Rudi’s Junior Legion baseball season came to a controversial finish Saturday at the Caldwell Invitational tournament.

Team Rudi (7-7 for the season) was leading Northwest Ada County 3-1 with no outs in the bottom of the first inning when Anthony Shankle was ejected for improperly sliding into home plate. Since the Baker team had just nine players to start the game the Diamondbacks had to forfeit the game.

“The umpire called Anthony safe then ejected him from the tournament for not sliding properly into the catcher,” said Team Rudi coach Dave Richards.

La Grande outslugs Team Rudi

A week ago Team Rudi defeated La Grande twice by 10-run mercy rule in Junior Legion baseball action. But on Wednesday, La Grande outslugged the Diamondbacks 16-10 in a single 9-inning game at La Grande.

“We didn’t play well,” said Team Rudi coach Dave Richards.

The Baker coach said it didn’t help matters that pitchers Anthony Shankle and Dustin Hull had sore arms and couldn’t pitch.

Barracudas earn a dozen firsts at LG

LA GRANDE — Baker Barracudas swimmers earned a dozen first-place awards last weekend at the La Grande Invitational swim meet.

Charlotte Bowers earned half of those firsts, winning the girls 15 and older 50 freestyle (28.06), 100 butterfly (1:11.72), 200 freestyle (2:12.59), 100 backstroke (1:11.05), 100 freestyle (1:00.55) and 500 freestyle (6:00.67).

Baker softball all-stars travel to Athena

ATHENA — Baker will send two all-star softball teams to the district tournament July 4 through 11 at Athena.

Baker’s 11-12-year-olds are coached by Jamey Hardy and Kelly Cahill.

Team members are Mychalea Osborn, Gracie Hardy, Kayla Davis, Carley Johnson, Jami Pallan, Stephanie Soliz, Jennifer Hibbard, McKenzie Roseborough and Annie Cahill.
