“We didn’t come to wrestle tonight,” was all Baker coach Dee Gorrell had to say after the match.
“I guess Tuesday we’d better be looking to improve.”

Whitney Phillips looked for a shot around the defense of Ontario’s Jenny Yano in Baker’s GOL win Tuesday.Baker City Herald/Kathy Orr) “Gutsy.”
That’s the way Baker girls basketball coach Tim Smith said his Bulldogs
played Tuesday in a 45-30 Greater Oregon League victory over Ontario at
BHS. The win improves Baker’s league record to 4-0.
“It was a gutsy performance,” Smith said. “We didn’t play that well. We
saw some of the effects of the sickness we’ve been battling.
“We came out flat. But we can chalk it up to the fact that we aren’t 100 percent healthy.”
Baker led just 26-20 with 45.8 seconds left in the third period. That’s
when Haley Adams and Morgan Ward hit back-to-back three-point baskets
to send the Bulldogs into the final eight minutes leading 32-21.

Baker managed to hold off the Tigers for a 65-56 Greater Oregon League
boys basketball win Tuesday at BHS.
Earlier, at Ontario, Baker led the entire game only to have Ontario make a late run before the Bulldogs clinched the win.
Tuesday, Baker led from the middle of the first quarter, but Ontario battled back to within 59-54 with 2:38 left in the game.
Baker kept its cool, and made 6-of-7 free throws down the stretch to improve to 4-0 in the GOL race.

Bulldogs roll over Mac-Hi to run league record to 3-0
Baker’s Tara Talbott and Mac-Hi’s Sierra Burchell battle for a loose ball during Baker’s GOL victory Saturday. (Baker City Herald/Kathy Orr) Baker battled sickness, injuries and Mac-Hi
Saturday before finishing the evening with a 57-24 win. The win keeps
the Bulldogs perfect at 3-0 in the Greater Oregon League girls
basketball race.
“It was a good, solid win,” said Baker coach Tim Smith.
“These are the kind of games that worry you as a coach,” he said. “You
know you are the better team, but you have to come out ready to go.”
Baker was without Maggie Harlow, who was on crutches nursing an injured
ankle, and Morgan Ward, who was ill. Savannah Daly played despite being
ill before the game. And, Mackenzie Warner became ill at halftime, and
played sparingly in the second half.
