Baker completed its perfect Greater Oregon League girls basketball season Friday by handing La Grande a 79-39 thumping in the Baker gym.

The win gives Baker a perfect 6-0 GOL record and a 19-1 mark overall. The Bulldogs’ next action will be Saturday at 4 p.m. in the GOL district championship game. Baker’s opponent very well could be La Grande, for a fourth meeting this season.

“We’re assuming it will be La Grande, but Ontario played them tough their last meeting,” said Baker coach Mat Sand.

Friday, Baker broke open a close game by kicking its running game into high gear.

“Everybody played well,” Sand said.

Unofficially, the Bulldogs had 18 assists on 28 baskets.

Sand smiled and nodded his head when that number was brought up.

“Our rebounding and steals were the same way,” Sand said.

“We executed our game,” he said.

“We found the open person and got them the ball. We like to get out and run.”

Leading just 11-9 late in the first quarter, the Bulldogs went on a 12-0 tear to build a 23-9 lead at the beginning of the second quarter.

Calli Ward and Rose Gwillim each tallied three points in the run. Jayme Ramos, Sydney Younger and Kaeli Flanagan each added a basket.

Ramos and Gwillim each finished the first half with 13 points as Baker built a 49-23 halftime lead.

Overall, Ramos led four Bulldogs in double figures with 20 points. Gwillim added 15, Flanagan 12 and Ward 10.

“I’m proud of all the girls,” Sand said. “We just need to take one game at a time.”
