The Bureau of Labor and Industries will hold its 35th annual Employment Law Conference Nov. 4-5 at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland.

The employer training event will feature more than 30 sessions on topics such as workplace harassment, pay equity, trouble employees, final pay and I-9 updates. This year’s conference will also include sessions on major new workplace requirements such as the recently passed Workplace Fairness Act.

“The Employment Law Conference is organized for employers of all sizes to learn what they need to know to stay up to date on frequently complex compliance issues,” said Labor Commissioner Val Hoyle. “This year’s conference will feature sessions on new employment laws and topics we are most frequently asked about as we travel the state.”

In addition to BOLI compliance experts, guest presenters from some of the state’s top employment law firms will lead sessions on a range of civil rights and wage and hour issues such as:

• Equal pay

• Case law updates

• Interviewing

• Investigating misconduct and union grievances

• Payroll records

• Reasonable accommodation in action

• Digital privacy and security

• Managing leave requests

• Wage and hour update

• I-9 issues and resolution

• Gender in the workplace

• Cohesive team behaviors

• Updates from Oregon’s Workplace Fairness Act

• Disability accommodations

• Personnel files and documentation

• Pregnancy and parental leave

• Discipline
