RALEIGH, N.C. — Morgan Scilacci of Baker City was one of three Oregon members of the National Junior Angus Association to represent the state at the Leaders Engaged in Angus (LEAD) Conference Aug. 3-6.

Scilacci was joined by Hayley DeHaan of McMinnville and Nicholas Sheridan of Yamhill. A total of 146 junior members from 27 states and Canada attended the conference to improve their leadership skills and learn about the beef industry.

Caleb Howard of Enterprise joins Farmers National Company

ENTERPRISE — Farmers National Company, a real estate sales and farm and ranch management company, has announced that Caleb Howard of Enterprise has joined the company as a real estate salesperson with special experience in farming, ranching and timber.

Howard specializes in farm, ranch, timber, hunting recreation and residential property sales. He holds a degree in rangeland ecology and management with a minor in animal science production from the University of Idaho at Moscow. Howard is active in the Joseph FFA, Oregon Cattlemen’s Association, Wallowa County Stockgrowers Association, Western Landowners Alliance and the Wallowa County Agricultural Resources Foundation.

As a licensed real estate salesperson, Howard joins the Farmers National Company sales team that has collectively sold more than $2.44 billion in the last five years and sold more than 3,800 properties. Aid available for some farmers, ranchers who suffered losses due to recent wildfires

Producers who suffered excessive livestock death losses and grazing or feed losses due to recent wildfires might be eligible for disaster assistance programs through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Farm Service Agency (FSA).

The Livestock Indemnity Program (LIP) offers payments to eligible producers for livestock death losses in excess of normal mortality due to adverse weather. The Emergency Assistance for Livestock, Honeybees, and Farm-Raised Fish Program (ELAP) provides emergency relief for losses due to feed or water shortages, disease, adverse weather, or other conditions, which are not adequately addressed by other disaster programs.

To participate in LIP, producers will be required to provide verifiable documentation of death losses resulting from an eligible adverse weather event and must submit a notice of loss to their local FSA office within 30 calendar days of when the loss of livestock is apparent. To participate in ELAP, producers must submit a notice of loss to their local FSA office within 30 calendar days of when the loss is apparent and should maintain documentation and receipts.
