To the editor:

I read with extreme interest the recent article about the FBLA chapter at Baker High School. The account of the Oregon state competition was awesome. These students certainly need to be highly commended for their dedication, attitude and accomplishments.

As a retired business educator at both the secondary and collegiate level, I know the vital importance of this kind of extension and exposure outside of the classroom environment. As these young people enter our complex business world, all they have achieved here at Baker High School will put them that much ahead of the game.

All of the members have shown their fiber through all of their extra work. I know the Baker community is proud of them. For the three: Mallory Bailey, Marissa Uriarte and Dakota Olson, along with their most capable and inspirational advisor, Toni Zikmund, I would hope that our community will be in solid support of their fundraising efforts to take them to Atlanta in June for the national competition.

And, thank you to the staff of the Baker City Herald for their continued and in-depth reporting on all extracurricular activities of our Baker schools.
