Baker opened Greater Oregon League softball play Saturday by sweeping Ontario 6-2 and 21-2 at the Baker Sports Complex.

The Bulldogs (2-0 in GOL and 5-2 overall) banged out 30 hits and took advantage of nine walks in the sweep.

In the first game, Baker took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Sierra Howerton opened the inning with a double and an out later scored on another double by D.J. McCauley.

Then, after Ontario took a 2-1 advantage in the top of the third inning, Baker answered with four runs in the bottom of the frame.

Tasha Nelson laced a two-out single and then scored on a triple by Jessi Stephens. Danielle Freese then singled Stephens home. Darion Grove followed with another single. Both runners scored on a double by Taylor McAdams.

Baker completed the scoring in the fourth whenNelson doubled and later scored on an error.

McCauley was the winning pitcher, allowing three hits, striking out nine and walking none.

Nelson and McAdams each had two hits to lead Baker's 12-hit attack.

Ontario opened Game 2 by scoring two runs off Baker starter Sierra Howerton.

That lead lasted one-half inning. Baker answered with five runs in the bottom of the first inning, and nine more in the second.

In the first, Nelson drew a one-out walk and scored on a home run by McCauley to left-center field. Stephens and Freese singled and both scored on a three-run Grove homer to almost the same spot.

In the second inning, Nelson and McCauley rapped one-out singles. Nelson scored on an error and McCauley on a wild pitch.

Grove, who finished the game with 6 RBIs, then slugged a two-run double, followed by a McAdams RBI single.

Walks to Katie McCarrell and Abi Smith loaded the bases. Howerton then plated two runs with a double, and Nelson another with a single.

With the bases still loaded, McCauley and Stephens each drew walks driving in two more runs.

Baker completed the scoring with seven runs in the fourth inning.

Howerton started things with another double. Nelson walked before Howerton scored on a McCauley doble.

Stephens, Freese and Grove then laced consecutive RBI singles. McAdams followed with another single to reload the bases.

McCarrell was hit by a pitch to drive home a run. Two more scored on a Nelson single and an Ontario error.

Howerton got the win, striking out three and walking four. McCauley struck out one in a scoreless fifth.

McCauley, Grove and Nelson each had three hits. Grove had 6 RBIs, McCauley four, Howerrton three and Stephens three.

Baker hosts Fruitland in a single game Tuesday at 5 p.m. The Bulldogs then travel to Mac-Hi for a GOL twinbill Friday.
