Baker and Fruitland battled in an old-fashioned pitcher's duel Thursday at the Baker Sports Complex.

Fruitland came out on top in the nonleague softball game, scoring the game's only run in the top of the third inning for a 1-0 victory.

Baker banged out six hits, but couldn't put them together with runners on base. Baker batters also struck out 16 times.

Fruitland scored its run after lacing a one-out ground rule double to right field. An out later the run scored on a single.

Baker had just two solid scoring opportunities.

The first came in the second inning. Darion Grove doubled and Taylor McAdams followed with a single. Both runners moved up to second and third with one out. But, the next two hitters struck out to end the threat.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, McAdams singled. Kayla Davis then had a bunt single while trying to sacrifice McAdams to second.

The threat then ended when the next three Bulldogs struck out.

Sierra Howerton was the losing pitcher.

Baker returns to Greater Oregon League action Saturday when the Bulldogs travel to Milton-Freewater for a doubleheader with Mac-Hi.
