Paramount movie men returned to Baker Sunday and immediately began working on preparation for the film “Paint Your Wagon” to be made at East Eagle Meadows this summer. But Pine construction coordinator, Al Schultz, transportation and George Guessford, livestock, made the trip to the site Tuesday accompanied by local Baker citizens.

Nixyaawii Community School, a four-year-old charter school on the Umatilla Indian Reservation in Mission with 58 students, was named for a nearby spring.

So it’s no wonder that so much hope springs from the mouths of the school’s fans, players and coaches — hope that wasn’t diminished by Wednesday’s 62-50 loss to top-ranked Joseph in the first round of the Class 1A state basketball championship at Baker High School.

New Jersey police arrested a 22-year-old man on Friday who is accused of the online sexual abuse of a 12-year-old Baker City boy.

Zachary Motta, 22, of Woodbridge, New Jersey, was arrested on charges of endangering the welfare of a child and possession of child pornography. Motta worked as an emergency medical technician at a New Brunswick, New Jersey, hospital and was a volunteer with the Iselin Volunteer Fire Co., a press release from the Woodbridge Police Department stated.

Baker City Police Chief Wyn Lohner said the boy’s mother reported the crimes to his school Feb. 14, and school officials called School Resource Officer Lance Woodward that day.
