Three years after a Baker County wildfire interfered with Oregon’s biggest bicycle ride, Cycle Oregon will return.

Cycle Oregon’s 30th week-long tour will start on Saturday, Sept. 8, in Baker City.

A week later, on Sept. 15, the 2,200 or so cyclists will finish their trip in Baker City.

During the week the riders will overnight in Halfway, Wallowa Lake, Elgin, two nights in Pendleton, and one in La Grande.

“We love Eastern Oregon,” said Steve Schulz, Cycle Oregon’s executive director.

The event, which brings a few hundred support staff in addition to the cyclists, is “a huge opportunity for Baker County,” said Shelly Cutler, executive director of the Baker County Chamber of Commerce.
