The Baker girls basketball team has won its first game at the Class 4A state tournament in 13 years.

But it wasn't easy.

Far from it.

Baker outscored Stayton 21-5 in the fourth quarter, after trailing 34-23 with less than 6 minutes left in the game this afternoon at Forest Grove High School. Baker scored the final 12 points of the game to win 42-36.
The Bulldogs scored the same number of points in the final quarter as they did in the first three quarters combined.

Rose Gwillim led Baker with 14 points. Isabella Nemec added 9 points, on a perfect 3-for-3 from three-point range. Sydney Younger added 8 points.

Baker advances to a semifinal game Friday at 6:30 p.m. against the winner of today's quarterfinal between Philomath and Banks.

See Friday's issue of the Baker City Herald for a story and photo from today's game.
