The temperature broke no records this morning in Baker City, a fact which your nose hairs might quibble with.

The molasses-like motor oil that grudgingly got around to lubricating, many metal-grinding seconds after you twisted the ignition key, could conceivably take exception, too.

This was the most frigid morning around here in more than four years.

The temperature at the Baker City Municipal Airport subsided to 14 degrees below zero, the farthest fall since Jan. 5, 2004, when the low as 21 below.

The Baker County YMCA is no longer asking Baker City to pay a $20,000 management fee to the YMCA for running Sam-O Swim Center.

But the YMCA is requesting the city start paying about $13,250 in yearly expenses that the YMCA has been responsible for at the city-owned swimming pool.

The City Council will consider the proposal, the latest in a series of negotiations with the YMCA that dates to last summer, when councilors meet Tuesday at 7 p.m. at City Hall, 1655 First St.

The YMCA first proposed the $20,000 annual management fee in June 2016.

The City Council balked at that proposal, but agreed to extend the YMCA’s management contract, which now continues through Feb. 28.
