The Eltrym Theatre is getting an inside face-lifting job. To improve the acoustical value of the house the entire auditorium is being draped. New screen, drapes along with front and aisle drapes are being installed, according to Tom Blair, district manager of Western Amusement Co.

Five teen-agers were honored Friday for their part in the apprehension and conviction of four cattle rustlers earlier this year.

Shawna Dougharity, Carl Patton, Kirk Rembold, Todd Johnson and Mike Davis were honored by the Baker County Livestock Association and the Farm Bureau before Friday’s Junior Livestock Auction Sale.

Chance, Baker City’s Planning Director and a former Virginia Tech professor, had the opportunity Thursday to share his research before the Oregon Land Conservation and Development Commission, which met at Baker City Hall.

Tom Rasmussen knew, in that awful moment when he rounded the corner and saw the oncoming car in his lane, that the two vehicles would collide.

He just wanted to make sure it wasn’t head-on.

Rasmussen, a Baker City man who was driving to a family reunion on the Oregon Coast Aug. 3 with his fiancee, Barbara Borello, her son, Ronnie, 13, and Rasmussen’s son, Shawn, 14, all from Baker City, managed to avoid the kind of crash he feared most.

But Tom, 50, was still shocked by the damage inflicted on the 2010 Ford Focus four-door sedan — and on three of the people riding in it.
