An Illinois man died in a two-vehicle crash in the westbound lanes of Interstate 84 a mile north of Baker City Sunday night.
Mitildit Lako, 36, of Elmwood Park, Illinois, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the van in which he was riding after the vehicle was struck from behind by a semi-truck, Oregon State Police stated in a press release. Lako was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police and Baker City ambulance crews were dispatched to the site at 8 p.m. Sunday.
The crash happened when Stavr Plasari, 53, of Glen Ellyn, Illinois, who was driving a 2016 Ford van, stopped or was traveling slowly in the right-hand lane, the press release stated. The van was struck from behind by a semi-truck driven by Samuel Goedhart, 30, of Twin Falls, Idaho.
Goedhart and a juvenile male passenger in his truck were taken by ambulance to St. Alphonsus Medical Center with minor injuries, police said.
Plasari also was transported to the hospital by ambulance. Information about his injuries was not available in time for this report.
