The 469-acre Pole fire about 10 miles north of Huntington has not grown in the past two days, and crews have made "significant progress" toward controlling the blaze sparked by lightning on Monday, Al Crouch, a spokesman for the BLM's Vale District, said late Thursday morning.

Earlier this week the fire had threatened a few homes in the remote location just west of Brownlee Reservoir, but on Wednesday the Baker County Sheriff's Office lowered evacuation levels to the lowest level for the entire area.

An incident management team that had been overseeing firefighting efforts is preparing to turn the fire back to the Vale District soon, Crouch said.
