Oregon Trail Electric Cooperative has applied with Baker City for permission to install a charging station for electric cars on the east side of Resort Street between Thatcher's Ace Hardware and the Dollar Tree.

The City Council, which meets tonight at 7 p.m. at City Hall, will consider a resolution designating one parking space for the charging station.

That space is directly across from where Church Street intersects with Resort Street.

There are four diagonal parking spaces, and the proposed site for the charging station is the farthest south of the spaces.

According to a staff report to the City Council, drivers who charge their vehicle at the station would pay for the electricity on site, similar to a fuel pump. The charging station is slightly more than 7 feet tall. OTEC has contacted the managers of both Ace and the Dollar Tree, according to the staff report.
