Missing hunter

Searchers trapped Barney, the dog belonging to missing hunter Andy Dennis, on Saturday. Dennis remains missing.

Searchers looking for Andy Dennis of Haines, missing for almost a week in the Wallowa Mountains northeast of Baker City, used a live trap to capture Dennis' dog, Barney, on Saturday evening, but crews haven't found Dennis.

A hunter had reported seeing a dog believed to be Barney on Friday. On Saturday searchers set a live trap at about 5:45 p.m., and Barney was found in the trap, unharmed, about 20 minutes later, according to the Baker County Sheriff's Office. The dog was in good condition.

On Saturday search and rescue members from Baker, Harney, Union and Umatilla counties spent the day in the East Eagle Creek area where Dennis told his wife he planned to hunt on Sept. 28 and return that day. He didn't come home and relatives reported him missing on Sept. 29. His vehicle was found at the East Eagle trailhead, about 32 miles northeast of Baker City. Dennis did not take his cellphone when he left the vehicle.
