Robert Ell “Bob” Tremain, 100, formerly of Baker City, died on Oct. 18, 2018, at the Jennings McCall Retirement Community at Forest Grove.
A celebration of life service will take place on Friday, Nov. 16, at 1:30 p.m. at the Jennings McCall II Assisted Living Center Library, 2300 Masonic Way in Forest Grove, with the Rev. Richard E. Osburn officiating. A flag honor presentation will be held under the auspices of the U.S. Navy. Private interment will follow at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Brookfield, Missouri.
Robert Ell Tremain was born on Feb. 9, 1918, at Brookfield, Missouri, the fourth of seven children born to Melvin Isaac Tremain and Bernice Lorraine (Coulson) Tremain. He was a graduate of Brookfield High School Class of 1935.
During World War II he served for 2½ years as a motor machinist in the United States Navy, receiving an honorable discharge for his service.
Bob was united in marriage to Frieda June Thudium on June 20, 1938, at Moberly, Missouri. Following their marriage they resided in Brookfield, until moving to Berkeley, California. In 1950, they moved to Oregon, settling in Baker City, where they lived for 40 years. In 1990, they moved to Forest Grove.
Bob was a truck driver for the Standard Oil Company in Alameda, California, and later in Baker City. Bob retired after 40 years in 1980 as a distribution manager for Chevron.
Bob was an active member and deacon of the First Presbyterian Church of Baker, and a trustee for Eastern Oregon University. He was a life member of the Blue Mountain Masonic Lodge, a 33rd Degree member of the Scottish Rite, Dad Adviser for the DeMolay and past patron of the Esther Chapter of Eastern Star.
Among his special interests, he enjoyed traveling and had a special love for spending time with family and grandchildren.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Robert Tremain, Jr. and Ann Biswell Tremain, of Escondido, California; his daughter, Dr. June Tremain, of Tualatin; his two grandchildren, Robert Ell Tremain, III, of Burbank, California, and Dr. Nicole Tremain (Jeff Milton), of La Jolla, California; his great-grandsons, Sean Aidan Tremain and Quinn Ell Tremain; his two great-granddaughters, Sancia Clair and Ella Tremain Milton; and several nieces and nephews.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Frieda, on Nov. 8, 2005.
