Gary Parker Baldwin, 68, of La Grande, and formerly of Baker City, died April 16, 2019, at his home.
A celebration of his life will take place Saturday, April 27, at 2 p.m. at Loveland Funeral Chapel, 1508 Fourth St. in La Grande.
Gary was born on Dec. 21, 1950, at Pendleton to James and Mary (Parker) Baldwin. He attended Baker Senior High School. Gary served our country while in the United States Army 2nd Battalion, 35th Artillery and in Vietnam in 1971. He was married to Susan R. Smith.
Gary was the custodian at Eastern Oregon University for 20 years until his retirement. He enjoyed fishing, working in his yard and camping, and he loved watching football. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 1 Bronze Service Star, Representative to Vietnam Campaign Medal, and received the Marksman (M-16) award. He was a life member of the American Legion.
Gary is survived by his wife, Susan; his stepchildren, Casey Smith (Brandi) of Elgin, Wiley Smith (Jessica) of Pendleton and Monica Smith of La Grande, and six other surviving children; his sisters, Linda Gentry (Homer) of Baker City, Tanna Morris (Allen) of Richland, Oregon, and Jean Hansen (Fred) of Pensacola, Florida; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Mary Baldwin.
