BAKER CITY — Although snow continues to block most roads and trails at higher elevations in Northeastern Oregon, warm weather the past few weeks has melted enough snow to allow many campgrounds to open on the Wallowa-Whitman and Umatilla national forests for the Memorial Day weekend.

“I think things are melting pretty quickly,” said Teresa Fraser, recreation program manager for the Wallowa-Whitman. “Things are definitely opening up.”
