The Baker boys and girls cross country teams advanced to the Class 4A state meet Saturday afternoon at Milton-Freewater.

The Baker boys, led by individual district champion Kale Cassidy, advance as the Greater Oregon League district champions.

The Baker girls qualified for state by placing second at the GOL meet.

In the boys meet, Baker tallied 33 points, outdistancing second-place Ontario by 13 points. Cassidy won the race in a time of 17:22.

Other Baker boys placers were Lucas Stearns, fifth (18:16.7); Alex Gross, seventh (18:22); Conner Cline, ninth (18:32.3); Jake Cuzick, 11th (19:10.01); Clay Keller, 12th (19:38.4); and Kyler Hester, 19th (20:58.5).

On the girls side of the meet, Baker and La Grande were the only GOL schools fielding complete teams. La Grande won the team title with 19 points. Baker was second with 38.

Baker’s top individual finisher was Corah Downing, fourth (22:17.29).

The other Baker finishers were Sydney Keller, seventh (22:53.08); Salena Bott, ninth (23:14.23); Lacey Jones, 11th (23:54.11); Jayden Rice, 14th (24:32.58); Payton Jones, 16th (25:38.14) and Kaitlyn Waters, 17th (26:17.59).

In the JV boys race, Baker’s Ian Jesenko was first at 22:51.33. Other Baker runners were Sam Harper, third (23:08.04) and Austin Rasmussen, sixth (26:33.31).

In the JV girls race, Hollie Mays was fifth (25:46.13), Beka Shaw eighth (27:09.24) and Zoe Carlson-Morrow 12th (37:18.69).

The Class 4A state meet is Saturday at Lane Community College in Eugene. The girls race starts at 11:15 a.m., the boys at 11:50 a.m.
