Baker may have to start toying with the nickname Cardiac Kids if the Bulldogs keep playing the way they are.

One night after rallying to defeat Homedale in double overtime, Baker again rallied to defeat Mac-Hi 47-43 in Greater Oregon League boys basketball action Saturday at Milton-Freewater.

“We were tired from the double-overtime last night,” said Baker coach Brent Gyllenberg. “But the kids stayed composed and got it done.”

The win not only boosted Baker to 1-0 in the GOL, it also evened the Bulldogs’ season record at 7-7.

Against the Pioneers, Baker trailed the entire game until Cayn Osborn’s three-pointer with 4 minutes left in the game gave the Bulldogs a 38-36 lead.

Then, after the teams battled through two more ties, Mac-Hi forged ahead 43-42 with 1:43 left in the game.

Osborn again answered, hitting a basket that gave Baker a 44-43 edge.

Osborn then made one of two free throws with 23 seconds left to give Baker a 45-43 advantage.

Mac-Hi had a chance to tie the game with under 10 seconds left, but missed both free throws.

Gabe Gambleton grabbed the rebound and was fouled with 8.9 seconds left.

Gambleton hit both free throws to seal the win.

Osborn led three Bulldogs in double figures with 16 points. Kaden Sand and Caden Long each added 10.
