Junction City proved to Baker why it is ranked No. 2 in the Class 4A softball rankings Wednesday.
Junction City (25-1) shut out the Bulldogs (8-17) 13-0 in five innings in the opening round of the state playoffs.
“We played a good team today,” said Baker coach Sonny Gulick.
“They put the ball in play and we struggled to make routine plays.”
Offensively, Baker had just four hits — a triple by Kyra Davis and singles by Rose Gwillim, Gussie Cook and Natalie Nelson.
“At the plate we kept putting the ball in play and Junction City made the plays they needed to get out of innings,” Gulick said.
“We had runners in scoring position several times but just couldn’t get the timely hit to get us on the board.”
Junction City had 14 hits off Cook. Junction City scored all of its runs in the second through fourth innings.
