Baker defeated Ontario 3-1 Saturday at the Sports Complex to clinch second place in the Greater Oregon League girls soccer standings.

Alayna Callaway scored Baker’s first goal after a crossing pass from Rose Gwillim.

Sydney Younger scored the Bulldogs’ second goal from near midfield when her attempted pass found the top left corner of the net.

“It was beautiful,” said Baker coach Kristen Rushton of the shot.

Gwillim added an insurance goal in the second half.

“This is the first group of girls that I have been able to coach since some of them were freshmen. It has been such a pleasure to watch them grow; watch them become leaders not only on the field but also off the field.”

Rushton said she appreciates how well the team members treat each other, how good they are in school, and “what wonderful citizens they are in our community.”

“I’m excited to see what they do with the rest of the season. It has been an amazing ride so far,” Rushton said.

Baker completes its GOL season Saturday at Mac-Hi, then hosts Umatilla on Oct. 23.
