Baker’s bats, quiet for almost a month, awoke Saturday with a bang.

The Bulldogs hammered 22 hits on the way to sweeping Mac-Hi 14-1, 11-0 in a Greater Oregon League baseball doubleheader at Milton-Freewater.

“We hit the ball well and threw the ball well,” said Baker coach Tim Smith.

“I was especially pleased with the way we swung the bats.”

In the first game, Mason Van Arsdall, Connor Lay and Spencer Smith combined for eight hits, including five doubles, and nine RBIs.

Sam McCauley, who added two hits and two RBIs, pitched a one-hit complete game. McCauley struck out 10.

In Game 2, the Bulldogs slugged six more doubles.

Van Arsdall, Lay, Gavin Curry and Smith each drove in two runs.

Lay pitched a five-inning no-hitter for the win. He missed a perfect game when he walked a batter in the fourth inning. Lay struck out six.

Baker hosts Nyssa in a single game Wednesday. The Bulldogs then return to GOL play Friday when they travel to La Grande.
