Baker had a solid tuneup for the Greater Oregon League baseball stretch run Wednesday.

The Bulldogs hammered a dozen hits, including a pair of home runs, while routing Nyssa 16-4 in a nonleague game at the Baker Sports Complex.

“We did what we needed to do,” said Baker coach Tim Smith.

“I thought we did a good job of manufacturing some runs.”

Smith said the win keeps Baker on track for challenging La Grande in a GOL doubleheader today.

“We’ve got some big games in La Grande Friday. That’s what you want,” Smith said.

The Baker coach said the Bulldogs still have their own destiny in their control. Baker sits in second place between La Grande and Ontario in the standings. The Bulldogs play both Tiger teams in their final four GOL games.

Wednesday, Baker jumped out to a 7-0 after one inning and never looked back.

Dawson Linscott and Conner Lay each homered for Baker. Sam McCauley and Spencer Smith each added three RBIs.

McCauley, the first of four Baker pitchers, earned the win.

Baker travels to La Grande Friday, hosts Joseph/Enterprise/Wallowa/Elgin in a single game Tuesday, then travels to Ontario May 10.
