To quote Baker girls soccer coach Kristen Rushton, she’s “super excited” about her team.

“We’re a young, thundering herd,” Rushton said of her squad that will field a dozen freshmen, eight sophomores, and just three seniors.

“This is a group that loves soccer and is super excited to play at the varsity level,” Rushton said.“We’re strong, fast and spirited.”

Rushton said her players want to have fun while they put in the time on the field.

“We want to play as a team, and support each other,” she said.

The Baker coach said her older players are “great leaders.”

Sydney Younger returns for her fourth season as a Baker starter.

Shayna Ruby, another senior who played forward last season, moves into the goalkeeper position.

“Shayna is a very strong keeper and is ready to be in goal,” Rushton said.

Baker opens its season Tuesday at Nyssa.
