It was an exciting Senior Night Friday in the Baker High School gym as the Baker boys and girls basketball teams both had resounding wins over Ontario to wrap up Greater Oregon League play.
The Baker girls won 56-26 to finish 6-0 in league play and claim their fourth straight GOL regular season title. Baker has won 13 straight games and is 22-2 overall. Among Baker's seniors, Sydney Younger had 10 points, Lauren Benson had 7 points, Isabella Nemec 3 and Anna Carter 2.
The Baker boys dominated the Tigers 80-19, thanks in part to a season-high 23 steals, and finished with a 5-1 GOL record. The Bulldogs have won 5 straight games and are 15-9 overall. Fittingly on Senior Night, seniors accounted for 58 of Baker's 80 points, the Bulldogs' highest total since beating Samuel Roberts of British Columbia 87-28 in the Junction City tournament in December. Jamisun Rigueiro had a season-high 16 points, Brylan Robb had 12, Caden Long had 10 (including a pair of crowd-pleasing dunks), Spencer Smith had 8 points, and Riley Flanagan and Spencer Shirtcliff 6 points each.
Both the boys and girls will play in the GOL championship game, which is for playoff seeding from the league, on Saturday, Feb. 22 at Baker. Game times will be announced later.
