Baker turns back La Grande, stays unbeaten in GOL play

S. John Collins / Baker City HeraldKaden Sand slams home a missed shot Friday night.

Three days after playing their worst game of the season, the Baker Bulldogs rebounded to stop La Grande 57-43 in a Greater Oregon League boys basketball game Friday at BHS.

Tuesday, at BHS, the Bulldogs (14-3 overall) were defeated 82-48 by Pendleton.

“I think the kids were embarrassed by Tuesday’s performance and took the loss to heart,” said Baker coach Jebron Jones.

“Especially on their home court.”

Jones said he was pleased with how the Bulldogs played against La Grande.

“They regrouped well and realized they were better than what they put forth on Tuesday,” Jones said.

A trio of Bulldogs scored in double figures Friday, led by the 22 points of Kaden Sand.

Gabe Gambleton and Caden Long each added 11 points.

“Also, if they continue to make the extra pass they will have a chance to win every game,” the Baker coach said.

“The key to the rest of the season is being 100 percent unselfish.”

Baker (3-0 in the GOL) has four games remaining in the regular season. The Bulldogs travel to Fruitland Tuesday for a nonleague game.

Baker then travels to Mac-Hi Saturday, hosts Ontario Feb. 1 and visits La Grande Feb. 8 before opening the GOL playoffs.
