Baker volleyball coach Ali Abrego didn’t want to add a loss to the Bulldogs’ record, but she hopes the defeat Monday, Oct. 25 at Pendleton will benefit the Bulldogs as they prepare for a first-round Class 4A playoff match on Saturday, Oct. 30 in the Baker gym.

“I’m hoping that it’ll help us recognize what we need to fix before Saturday,” Abrego said after Baker (15-6 on the season) was swept at Pendleton in a match that was added to the schedule just last week.

Baker will play host to Marshfield, from Coos Bay, in Saturday’s playoff match. It will start at 2 p.m. Doors will open at 1:30 p.m. Admission is $8 for adults and $5 for students, and school and local passes will not be accepted. Marshfield’s season record is 12-6.

The Buckaroos (7-11) won 25-22, 25-18 and 25-17, avenging Baker’s 3-0 sweep in the Baker gym on Sept. 9.

Abrego said Baker won the first seven points of the match, but struggled thereafter with self-inflicted errors.
