Baker opened its nonleague football season Friday by shutting out Nyssa 38-0 at Nyssa.
Spencer Shirtcliff threw for two touchdowns — one each to Kaden Myer and Riley Flanagan — and ran for another score.
Gauge Bloomer ran for two scores and 286 yards. Flanagan caught seven passes for 94 yards, Shirtcliff was 8-of-19 for 106 yards and Ethan Myers scored on a blocked punt.
“It was a great first game for us,” said first-year Baker coach Jason Ramos.
“Our defense, in particular, was outstanding all night.”
Baker scored on its first two possessions in the first quarter.
After stopping Nyssa’s opening drive, Baker marched 54 yards in seven plays to open the scoring.
Shirtcliff connected with Myer from 14 yards out for a 6-0 Baker lead.
Baker boosted its lead to 12-0 two offensive plays later when Bloomer busted off left tackle for a 67-yard TD run.
Bloomer scored again, this time on a 41-yard gallop, on Baker’s second possession of the second period.
Shirtcliff then increased Baker’s advantage to 25-0 when he found Flanagan from 32 yards out.
Baker led 25-0 at halftime.
Neither team scored in the third quarter.
Baker’s special teams then got on the board when Myers blocked a Nyssa punt, scooped the ball up and raced 20 yards for the score.
Shirtcliff added a 1-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter.
Baker (1-0) travels to Homedale Friday. Homedale defeated Melba 58-6 Friday.
