Baker girls claim another tourney

Bulldogs win second straight tourney championship and run record to 11-1

A week after winning the Nyssa tournament the Baker girls made it two tournament titles in a row Saturday by stopping Henley 66-26 to win the Sisters tournament.

The Class 4A fourth-ranked Bulldogs improved their season record to 11-1 with the sweep.

The Bulldogs reached Saturday’s title game by topping Estacada 62-22 in Friday’s championship semifinals.

Baker jumped out to a 20-6 lead after one quarter against Henley.

Six Bulldogs scored in the quarter, led by six points from Emily Carter.

Baker went on to build a 39-16 halftime advantage.

Jayme Ramos led the Bulldogs with 15 points. Kaeli Flanagan added 11, and Carter 10.

Semifinal game

Another balanced offensive effort propelled Baker past Estacada in the semifinals.

Leading just 10-8 after one period, the Bulldogs outscored Estacada 18-2 in the second quarter to build a 28-10 halftime lead.

Again, six Bulldogs scored in the quarter, led by Rose Gwillim’s five points.

Flanagan led Baker with 14 points. Gwillim added 11.

Baker returns home Wednesday to host Fruitland.

The Bulldogs open Greater Oregon League play Saturday at Mac-Hi.
