Schwin wins district crown

“It was a lot of fun for the kids,” said Baker coach Dave Johnson of the Bulldogs’ play at district at Ontario Saturday.

“The kids played outstandning. It was a great tournament and we’re proud of the kids.”

Schwin, 19-1 against Oregon competition this year, won all three of his matches in straight sets. He defeated Vale’s Marco Ramirez 6-3, 6-1 in the title match.

“Zach had a great tourney,” Johnson said. “He turned the tables on Marco, who had defeated him for the title last year.”

Niebauer won his opening match, then lost to Ramirez in the semifinals. Niebauer then lost to Vale’s Kenneth Silva in the third-place match.

The Cunninghams advanced to the title match with two wins before losing 6-0, 3-6, 6-1 to Vale’s Sam McLaughlin and Japheth Carlson in the title match.

After winning her opener, Treblecock dropped her semifinal match and the third-place match.

Baker’s Hannah Johnson claimed the girls singles consolation championship.

Baker doubles team Emma Finley and Kaylee Dalke lost their first two matches.
