Baker went into some rarified territory Saturday after defeating La Grande 5-3 in a Greater Oregon League boys soccer match at the Baker Sports Complex.

The win not only kept Baker’s current season without a loss (4-0-1), it also was Baker’s first league victory in 10 years.

La Grande actually scored first 15 minutes into the match.

Baker then evened the score at 1-1 on a penalty kick by Omar Benites.

That’s where the score remained at halftime.

Baker took the lead for good five minutes into the second half when Jamisun Rigeiro scored after receiving an arching free kick from Benites.

Baker was aided in the second half when La Grande had to play with just nine players. One player received a red card and was ejected. Another Tiger accumulated two yellow cards and also was ejected.

Colton Anderson increased Baker’s lead to 3-1 when his shot caromed off the side post and into the net for the score.

Then, after La Grande cut Baker’s lead to one goal, Rigeiro scored on a header in front of the net after receiving a corner kick from Benites.

La Grande again cut the lead to one, but Jorge Duran quickly answered with the day’s final goal.

Baker is idle until Saturday when the Bulldogs travel to Ontario for a GOL match.
