Baker led almost the entire game Tuesday on the way to stopping Nyssa 59-48 in a boys nonleague basketball game in the Baker gym.

Baker trailed 3-2 early in the first quarter, then led the rest of the way to improve its season record to 2-1.

Baker led by as many as 19 points in the second quarter, and by 18 late in the third period.

Kaden Sand and Gabe Gambleton each scored seven points in the first period as Baker took a 24-13 lead.

Sand, Riley Flanagan, Caden Long and Mason Van Arsdall each tallied four points in the second quarter as Baker built its lead to 40-25 at halftime.

Neither team scored well in the third period as Baker maintained a 48-32 edge at the break.

Nyssa chipped away at Baker’s lead in the fourth quarter, cutting the deficit to 10 points twice.

But Baker, leading 56-46 with a minute left to play, made 5-of-6 free throws down the stretch to secure the win.

Long led Baker with 16 points. Gambleton added 14, and Sand 11.

Baker will spend the rest of the week at the Harrisburg-Junction City Les Schwab Eagle Booster December Classic.

Baker plays Harrisburg Thursday at 8 p.m. at Harrisburg High School.

The tournament runs through Saturday.
